The Secret of Anti-Aging

But research also shows that we have a chronological age and a biological age, or your body age.  If you are like some, perhaps your body age is telling you that you are much older than your chronological age.   Your body age is a mirror to your mind set.  While there are other contributing factors such as your health, your image, your energy, and your feelings, it is your mindset that that influences all of them.  We know that our thoughts and beliefs determine our reality.  Our thoughts lead to feelings and words, feelings and words to actions, and actions to results.  So if your mindset determines your age, what is yours?

Anti-aging is a mindset. However since what we focus on grows, we must change our thoughts to what we do want rather than what we do not!  So let’s call it a new-aging mindset!

Professor Ellen Langer, a Harvard social psychologist, has studied the way our mindset affects both our health and how we age. At the core of her work is unifying the mind and the body rather than how the conventional medical and psychological world typically treats each as separate.  Langer is convinced that unity offers a far better understanding and hope for making positive change.  Fortunately, her studies provide us with plenty of science to back up her assertion.

Anti-aging includes obvious things like eating healthy, getting plenty of rest, exercising regularly, avoiding excess alcohol consumption, and scheduling regular health checkups.  All these things we should do regardless of our chronological age and are far easier to continue if they are habits we develop before we become concerned with anti-aging.

The true secret to anti-aging starts within our own mind. No amount of creams, serums, or procedures will change what you think!  Most of us have a subconscious blueprint or a belief about how long we’ll live and how we’ll age.  We often think of what we don’t want instead of creating what we do want.

The good news is that YOU choose your thoughts.  Beauty starts inside. So develop a mindset that will be positively reflected in your body age.  Decide your aging timeline.  Focus your thoughts and energy on the things you can do with a grateful heart.  Refuse to engage in “old” talk, even jokingly!  Continue to work on the obvious while choosing not to commiserate with friends about all that is wrong. 

Stop telling yourself you are having a ‘senior moment.’  Remember moment by moment we have a choice.  It starts with the right mindset.  You can choose the remote and recliner or you can choose to be young and healthy forever.  All it takes is a choice of a different mindset!
